Egypt is probably the world's oldest civilization, having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 years ago. Egypt is also one of the first holiday destinations. Early Greeks, Romans and others went there for fun and to see the wonders of some of mankind's earliest triumphs.
But Egypt is much more than Pyramids and monuments. It is also Red Sea scuba diving, hot nightspots, luxury hotels and five star restaurants. It offers romantic cruises down the Nile on festive riverboats, a night at the grand opera and it is a cultural experience like none you have ever experienced. Egypt is a land bustling with life, sound, visual beauty and excitement.
Sun, sea and sand. Luxury five-star hotels, water sports, shopping and entertainment. This is Sharm el-Sheikh, one of the most accessible and developed tourist resort communities on the Sinai Peninsula. All around are Bedouins, colourful tents, mountains and sea. There are small, intimate hotels with modern designs, as well as larger hotel complexes belonging to International chains, plus about all the amenities one could expect of a tourist centre, including casinos, discos and nightclubs, golf courses and health facilities. In fact, with diving and snorkelling, windsurfing and other water sports, horse and camel riding, desert safaris, and great nearby antiquities attractions, it is almost impossible for a visitor to ever suffer from boredom. Na'ama Beach is one centre of tourist activities. Located just north of Sharm, this area is developing into a resort town of its own. Most hotels at Na'ama Bay have their own, private beaches with comfortable amenities such as chairs, shades and beach bars.
Taba gives its name to the stretch of coastline from the Israeli border southwards, and is one of the most picturesque on the Red Sea. The town of Taba has few facilities, while it makes a great base for exploring the region, as many sights are easy to reach from here. Taba Heights is one of the most exciting tourism developments on the Red Sea, with plans for 20 hotels, an 18-hole US championship golf course, a marina, casino and a full range of water sports and activities on offer. At the present time, it’s a peaceful location, perfect for a relaxing break on the beautiful shores of the Gulf of Aqaba
Originally a small fishing village, Hurghada has become one of the foremost resorts on the Red Sea and has developed into an area that is a haven for holidaymakers and divers alike. The Resort’s great mix of hotels, shops, restaurants and nightlife plus some fine dive sites and access to the rest of the southern Red Sea, makes this a great base. Whilst Hurghada has no real centre, the harbour area of Sigala offers a good range of facilities, while other locations are ideal for peace and relaxation. The Hurghada area offers a multitude of reefs, walls, wrecks and abundant marine life, with those further offshore offering challenges for the more experienced diver. There are about 10 islands, which can be visited on day trips from Hurghada, where sharks, giant eels and manta rays can be found in deeper waters. For those wishing to stay on dry land, an exciting choice of excursions are available, including day trips to Luxor and Cairo plus the opportunity to journey through the desert on a jeep, camel or quad bike safari.
Built on the site of the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor is one of Egypt's prime tourist destinations. People have been visiting the magnificent monuments of Luxor, Karnak, Hatshepsut and Ramses III for thousands of years. Feluccas, old barges and luxury hotel ships cruise to and from Cairo and Aswan. Luxor is also a good base for exploring the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, which include the tomb of Tutankhamun, the necropolis of Thebes and the Temples of Hatshepsut and Karnak.
